What you'll do:
- Prepares or supervises preparation of meals using commercial kitchen equipment.
- Prepares work schedules reflecting shifts, days and hours of work.
- Directs and assists lower-level employees, youth, and/or other helpers in the preparation and serving of foods, and the cleaning of utensils and work areas.
- Supervises and evaluates lower-level employees, monitors performance and work habits to ensure promptness and efficiency.
- Requisitions and obtains supplies and menu items; ensures quality and quantity of food, supplies, and equipment.
- Prepares meals and develops menus which comply with the rules of nutrition in preparing well-balanced meals.
- Maintains standards of safety and sanitation in the kitchen by supervising and participating in the cleaning of utensils, equipment, and work areas.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
Knowledge, skills & abilities
In addition to those identified in the previous level: Knowledge of standard kitchen procedures and sanitation guidelines. Ability to prepare more complex menu items.
Qualifications
Three or more years of commercial, industrial, or institutional cooking experience including one or more years in a supervisory capacity; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency. (Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university which included 15 earned credit hours in food preparation, Dietetics, Nutrition, Foods and Nutrition, Food Service Management, or a closely related area may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required general experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.)
OR
An Associate Degree OR 4 years of food service experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
